Education

HBA has worked on several historic buildings used by institutions of higher education. Our many services include planning for major capital improvements as well as designing sensitive and appropriate code upgrades. Our philosophy respects the existing historic building, while using innovative solutions that complement the existing structure. Our preservation solutions aim to achieve 100 year repairs, and our planning documents provide phasing options with accurate construction cost estimates to allow for appropriate planning.

Arts & Culture

HBA has worked with many museums and cultural centers. A focus of our work is the ability to facilitate and help plan for the stewardship of these important cultural heritage spaces working with Board Members. HBA can provide grant writing services and help administer grants for our non-profit clients. HBA also provides maintenance guidelines to help stewards of these public buildings develop long term maintenance goals.

Religious

HBA has completed a wide range in size and complexity from a small façade restoration project like Parsippany (NJ) Presbyterian Church, with a construction value of $140,000, to the $5.5M repair and restoration of St. Bernard’s Episcopal Church (NJ) after a devastating fire.  Many religious building projects include roof replacements and exterior envelope masonry and wood restoration, structural stabilization work and barrier free access projects. HBA works with all denominations to help build consensus to preserve historic spiritual spaces for future generations.

Civic

HBA has conducted a range of services for civic structures. From historic research and National Register Nominations, to large scale investigation and construction projects. These projects often include masonry restoration, roofing, terra cotta investigations and stabilization. HBA has experience working with federal, state, county and local governments. Our preservation solutions aim to achieve 100 year repairs. Our planning documents provide phasing options and accurate construction cost estimates to allow for appropriate planning.

Commercial & Hospitality

HBA has have completed several projects for private clients including both interior and exterior renovation. Our philosophy is to respect the existing historic building character and to provide design solutions that are both practical and complement the architectural features of the building. Often careful investigation and historic research uncovers important character defining features that can be restored.
