Historic Building Architects, LLC was selected in 2014 by Passaic County to write a National Register of Historic Places Nomination for the 1899 Flemish renaissance revival US Custom House and Post Office (a.k.a. Passaic County Court House Annex), decorated with decorative patterned brickwork, carved limestone, and stepped Dutch gables; and the decadently outfitted 1904 late Italian renaissance revival Passaic County Court House, laid out on a Greek Cross plan with a marble exterior, copper clad cupola, interior stained glass dome, Guastavino vaulting, and unique statuary and sculpture. The process included extensive archival research, site visits, and the synthesis of all the collected information into an argument for social and architectural significance. The structures will be listed under Criteria A for the changing role of architects in designing public buildings at the turn of the century, and Criteria C for design by a master architect and the uniqueness of the buildings.
